Google Book Search

Google Book Search is a tool that allows you to view a whole book or a part of the book, which depends on the publisher.

I think this library-based digitization from Google will definitely affect the relationship between Google and the publishers. When Google only shows a part of the book, it will affect reader's impression of the book depends on which part of the book Google is showing. If Google shows the boring part of the book, it would be really unfair to the publisher.

Yahoo! and Microsoft responded by creating a same tool. the books' contents are all over the internet now and soon people will no longer have to go to a library.

This project if also threatening the librarians because books' contents are all over the internet now and librarians are no longer needed.

I think that the 3 competitors should shut down that tool because it will really unfair to the publishers and librarians. People are relying on computers too much now. If people really want to read the book, they should purchase it in order to support the author.

Wii

I think Wii is just hype. Every time when a new console from Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo comes out, people are excited about it. After a period of time or when another new console comes out, people will stop talking about it. Wii is popular because of its motion sensor. Now Wii has the motion sensor, the next console might have a microphone with it, or even a 3D projector, then the hype of Wii is eventually fade out. For example, When Wii comes out, PSP, PS2, Xbox's hype decreased and faded out.

Although Wii is just hype, i still think it has a good impact on people that are playing it. In my opinion, i think Wii is good because you actually have to move your body around like you are doing exercises and it benefits our health. In the other way, although this sound really weird but i think it is true, I personally think that Wii's new system is Anti-Addictive. Since you have to move your body, you will eventually get tired and stop playing. If it is a computer game, people will probably stay up the whole night playing it.

A lot of people are concerned about Wii's safety issue. Once in a news report, it shows how people always accidentally throw their controllers towards the TV due to big movements. It tells us that technology are sometimes harmful.

Cyber-bullying

I think the assembly for Cyber-bullying is really important because it tells us that cyber-bullying people isn't protected by the law. A lot of students thought that cyber-bullying is not illegal because it is bullying people through the internet. It is good that this assembly informed the students that cyber-bullying is also illegal.

We consider cyber-bullying when a person is insulting or bullying another person and that it made the person feel uncomfortable and unsafe. For example, when a person says to another person "I will kill you." It will make the other person feel unsafe and it is considered as cyber-bullying.


I think the cyber-bullies should get a bigger punishment than the normal bullies because the cyber bullies intend to hide their face in order to bully people without getting caught.

War games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield or CounterStrike are so popular now. The reason why they are popular is because most war games are usually online game and there are more than a million people playing these games at the same time. The other reason is because they are realistic and it requires a lot of strategies such as team work and aiming skill if it is a gun game.

"If it's not realistic, it's not worth playing,"
People are saying this because these games look real and it is like you are really in a war, so I think war games will desensitive people to the horror of war in real life. In game, you just have to kill and your enemy will spawn and kill you back. But in real life, war is way different from this. If you died, you died. There is no such a thing like spawning and play again. When young children is playing these kind of games, they might get violent because they are used to what is happening in the game.

I think these games good for people who want to experience war but don't be addicted to it, because it might make people go violent.

An IPOD classroom?

1, I think I can learn well with an iPod. We are in a self-taught school and we learn things from units, which are all words, and probably some seminars but not much. If we are using an iPod, we can actually see what is really going on and it will be way easier to memorize things will images than words. Using iPod to learn can also help us to understand the course more than words. For example, a science experiment, we will understand it way more better in images than words.

2,I think MaryWard should embrace this technology.
Advantages :
Help understanding units because you can actually see the real thing with your eyes.
Easier to memorize things with images.
You can learn things even you are on the bus or on the street.
We can save them in our computer so we can review them anytime.
Student will have more interest in studying with iPods than papers.
With videos, teachers are able to explain something that cannot be explained just by words.
Disadvantages:
Student will lose their interest on reading things.
Student might not catch up to the speed of how the teacher in the video goes.
Student will have to buy their own iPods and some student might not to able to affort the price.
Student will have to look at the iPod screen for a long time and it will harm our eyes.
